Excerpts from FUNDAMENTAL MOVEMENTS OF THE UPPER BODY: The Eyes and Eye Levels

What you see and how you see it will influence the movement of the eyes: the falling cherry blossoms in Musume Dōjōji are different from the falling peony blossoms in Kagami Jishi. Looking shyly at onefs sweetheart is different from looking respectfully at a superior, or down at an inferior, and still different are the eyes that are looking gently at an old person one is caring for, or at a pretty child, and so forth. The audience must experience what you are seeing and the emotions you are feeling.
